Two songs popular in ballroom/vogue spaces were selected [I’m a Woman by Kevin JZ Prodigy and Elements of Vogue (David Pepino 1989 Original Mix) by Johnny Dynell] and combined them with elements of Catholic hymns in order to create our own version of a Queer offering.

This work explores death, mourning, and veneration through a Queer lens as a means of understanding my positionality in these subjects. This work aims to answer the questions, how would I want to be mourned when I pass? How can we as Queer people mourn our fallen ancestors? How can we honor them? Nine poems are interspersed through different soundscapes, consisting of instruments from música Llanera and ambient noises in order to create a fragmented narrative that the viewer can piece together. I explore how grief and honoring are two shades of the same feeling and create a space for my audience to situate themselves within that internal dialogue.

Thank you to my sound engineer, Tara Britt.
